Self-Care on a Budget

Self-care has become a buzzword. It is difficult to care for oneself while facing extreme hardship and caring about personal needs is the last thing on one's mind. Budget, bills, school, children, and other priorities consume the most energy. Keep Reading for twenty low-budget self-care ideas.

A day of self-care looks different for everyone. A quick workout, a day at the spa, watching re-runs of a favorite show, or taking the leap to do something out of the box.  The current climate for work, balancing home life, and personal challenges depends on the economic background, especially in the United States of America. It all boils down to whether you can afford it, and even if you can not, choose to do what brings happiness anyway.

  1. Go on a walk or a run and disconnect from any electronics

  2. Big Five Journaling: List the Five Emotions felt that day and why

  3. Meditate for 5 or 15 minutes

  4. Call a friend or speak with a loved one

  5. Watch your favorite movie, or finally, watch the show you were planning to watch

  6. At Home Spa, scrubs, bubble bath, and face masks if you can (Walmart and Target have great options)

  7. Write letters to your future self to open on difficult days

  8. Sit and observe nature; do nothing on purpose for a moment

  9. Listen to a playlist that suits your mood

  10. Eat or make your favorite meal

Sometimes, you must choose the best for yourself and deal with whatever repercussions. A little rest and relaxation should not rock your world, though. At other times, exercise some discipline by finding creative ways to spark relaxation. Self-care on a budget depends on personal interests and the amount willing to be given toward rewarding oneself. A budget looks different for everyone, but why not try a few that take you on a journey to learning yourself more, too?

11. Listen to an inspiring TED Talk

12. At-home manicure

13. Take yourself on a movie date and get your favorite snack

14. Read a book

15. Stretch and create a routine focused on deep breathing

16. Rediscover a hobby you have not used in a while

17. Digital Detox for an hour

18. Start a time capsule for the year

19. Get together with friends

20. An at-home staycation where you treat your place like a spa for the day

Sacrifice may be necessary to make some of these ideas a reality. It may require saving up an entire year for a big trip or doing something small weekly, but you're worth it.
