The Art of Writing
Oh, the places you will go when you take the time to sit and read or walk and listen to a book of your choosing. The act of enjoying writing sometimes begins with a love for reading. It may not have been Dr. Seuss, Judy Blume, Harry Potter, Animorphs, Twilight, Anne of Green Gables, or other stories. A love for reading can happen at different times, but there are moments when a break is needed. How do you keep going when you have lost inspiration or are unsure where your writing will take you next?
1. Get out in the world with a heart wide open
Inspiration begins with exposure, but it will only happen if your heart is open to what surrounds you. Storytelling is how humanity connects, which is why books are a billion-dollar business. Our stories are how we know we are connected to the past and future. Self-awareness is also essential to finding inspiration that speaks to you.
Trying new things is great, but knowing your interests helps significantly in finding inspiration that resonates. It is easy to keep trying new things, but to ground yourself in inspiration means knowing you may never be a daredevil jumping out of planes for an adrenaline rush. An indoor skydive may be the limit, but that is okay.
2. Writing is a way to connect.
An idea on paper or in a digital document is now the beginning of sharing a story that may resonate or help someone else. The experience, whether through a problematic character, a true story, or fan fiction, is a resounding gong that this work resonated with someone.
The art of adding a few letters to create syllables, a few words that make sentences, and then acronyms to shorten them are parts of writing that make it art. Sounds easy. It is not as simple as it looks to create a gripping narrative or tell a true story with the skill to captivate an audience.
Language is a conduit for understanding people, whether they are an audience member or a group of friends. We see this through film, music, and captivating stories about people who make it through seemingly impossible circumstances.
3. Rules are often broken
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to writing, whether keeping your daily journal or creating content. Content in whatever capacity will have a level of creative freedom. Of course, it must make sense, but it may miss the mark if you, as the creator, stress every rule. Whatever your story is, whether for your dream as an influencer, a writer, podcast, YouTube, a novel, or a movie script, make your story a priority by recognizing it as a craft with your unique voice.
Remember that your art evolves, and so does your creativity with practice. Give yourself grace as you create your next project, and never stop believing it can become more than you ever imagined.
